Classroom Pictures: Part 1

We used our new downstairs classroom today for the first time! So here is my assessment and photos at the end!:

1. The kids loved sitting at the little table. As soon as they walked in, everyone gravitated toward the table. We do start with reading, so I had to ask them to move toward a reading area near that couch that I had set up for them. I have just about enough kid sized chairs in the house for each kid, so they were happy to move to the reading area and sit in their own chair.

2. With only room for four chairs at the little white table, there isn't enough room for ALL the kids. I had already thought of that and set up and black folding table for extra workspace as well as a blanket to spread out on the wood floor for more workspace. The problem was, everyone wanted to be at the little table! During shelf time, this is an issue because the trays take up workspace along with whatever project the kids are working on.

3. Our classroom walls are bare! Even Ryan made a comment about this, which makes me happy that he noticed the same things I did. I'll be doing shopping in the coming month to find classroom-appropriate material to hang on the walls. I envision maps of the united states and the world (bonus: Indiana map), prints of the alphabet and numbers one through ten at least (bonus: if they fit in the area opposite of our projector), and seasonal posters that change with the season. I also have a huge white board that I have yet to nag Ryan enough to hang up for me as well as a corkboard with border that I will change seasonally.

4. I am currently repurposing the kids' bedroom floor rugs downstairs. They have carpet, so it's not a huge deal, but I would prefer something for downstairs specifically.

5. I NEED bookshelves! I prefer small kid-sized bookshelves. I about have Ryan talked into making these for me: Raingutter Bookshelves. I love these and they look so nice for what they really are for, don't they?

And now....The pictures! I took these with my iPad 2, so the quality isn't amazing by any standards, but once the room has a more complete feel, Ill be updating with more pictures!
